Chapter Fifteen

Nadine went to the movies to get her mind off thoughts of revenge. A French film festival was playing, and the featured film was. The Bride Wore Black. As she watched it, she couldn’t help but marvel and how the main character’s fate was so like hers. The synchronicity of it all made her marvel at how she happened to be watching this film at this time. There are no coincidences.

When she got out of the theater, she checked her phone. There was a text from Douglas. “Looking forward to seeing you again. I enjoyed our time together.”

What a pig! His message strengthened her resolve and as she headed for home, her mind was spinning with several options. At her place she poured herself a glass of wine and looked out through the window at the darkness. She dozed off and awoke with a start. She heard a sound, and then quickly realized it was the wind bending a branch that was scratching the window. She got up, went to bed and fell sound asleep.

The next morning, she felt energized. She made herself some coffee and checked her phone for messages - a couple emails that were spam and some friend requests on Facebook and LinkedIn. She sent a text to Douglas: “Thanks for reaching back to me.”

He texted back: “My pleasure. Can we meet somewhere?”

She didn’t answer his text. Instead, she put on some running clothes and went for a jog. She pushed herself until she worked up a good sweat, then headed back to her place. It started raining just as she got to the front door. She showered and finally responded to Douglas.

“Hi again”

He quickly replied: “I took the liberty of renting a room at the Dorchester”

“I see.”

“Can you meet me there at 2?”

“Okay.”

“I’ll be in room 735.”

So predictable.

She put on a black dress that showed off her figure, called for an Uber and was on her way. As she got out of her ride, she paused and looked up at the fancy hotel and thought about its storied history. She took the elevator to the seventh floor.

“Nadine, you look ravishing.”

She smiled coyly.

“Nice dress, you won’t be needing it right now.”

“Not so fast. Do you have anything to drink?”

He pointed to the bar. “Serve yourself.”

She poured herself a small bit of vodka and took a sip.

“I guess you’re wondering why I wanted to meet you,” she said.

“I thought it was pretty obvious.”

“Oh. In what way?”

“Come on, you don’t have to play games with me - we’ve already been together.”

“Is that what you call it?”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I mean you raped me.”

“I wouldn’t call it that. I paid good money for you.”

“You’re such an asshole.”

“Who the fuck do you think you are? You’re just a high classed whore. Don’t get all high and mighty on me.”

He went over and grabbed her arm, and she immediately twisted it at the wrist causing him to cry out.

“A little different when the girls not drugged, isn’t it Douglas?”

He looked at her and she could see a look of fear appear on his face.

“The thing is whatever game you and Erik have been playing is over.”

“Get the fuck out of here,” he yelled.

“Sadly, for you, that’s not an option. Now, from all the evidence I have, it seems plainly obvious that you’re guilty. Do you have any words in your defense?”

“Fuck you.”

“Not really a good response Douglas, but consistent with your character, or should I say, lack thereof. You leave me no choice but to pronounce your sentence. I find you guilty of rape.”

“I’m calling security.”

As he went for the phone, she kicked him hard on his ankle as he fell in agony.

“Would you prefer me cut your dick off or just kill you?”

He was speechless.

“I see unlike your usual self, you’re at a loss for words. I think I understand.”

“I’ll give you money if that’s what you want.”

“Oh Douglas, money is the last thing I want.”

She could see the look of terror on his face. He had always been in control, and now the tables were turned. He looked around the room for a means of escape. There were none.

She took out a gun with a silencer attached and shot him in the head. She put it in his hand. She took off her dress and heels, pulled out a running outfit and track shoes from her bag, put the dress and heels in it and left making sure nobody saw her.
